There comes a time in every little boy's life when sports come into the picture. I have been anticipating this from the moment I found out Kade was a boy! It's just one of those things that you can count on as a parent. Well, West Haven City had all of their signs posted for T-Ball registration and I figured the moment had come! I was so excited to get Kade on a team! I think playing on a team teaches great skills, and I figured that he would be able to make some new friends and have some fun.
As I was going through the registration form, there was a box that you could check to be a parent volunteer. I thought, "For sure! I'll be at the games anyways, so why not help out?" With no more thought than that, I submitted the form and awaited the news of a team and practice times.
Last night, as I was minding my own business and not thinking about T-Ball, I got this cryptic message to my phone. It came across as a picture message from West Haven Rec. I got so excited!! When I opened the message, the only thing it said was coaches will be meeting. Oh Cool! They are getting coaches ready to go and just keeping all of us parents in the loop! Right? WRONG!!!
Since it was clear that the message didn't come across correctly, I decided to check my email. Sure enough! West Have Rec was listed in the from section! Happy Day! Again... WRONG!!!
When I looked in the email, I was shocked to read,
"Thank you so much for volunteering to be a coach for our T-Ball season. We look forward to working with you!"
Um... Excuse me?! Coach?! No way... There had to be a mistake! I don't know the first thing about coaching T-Ball! I wanted to be in charge of creating the treat schedule or making sure the bats and balls showed up to the game! NOT being the COACH!!! As I continued reading the email, I realized that this wasn't a joke. I am, in fact, a Coach. Wow.
Next Monday I will attend a coaches meeting and get all the knowledge necessary to coach this team. (I can only pray!) Even though I don't know a ton about the marvelous sport of T-Ball, I'm thinking that this can only be a fun adventure in the making!
After a couple hours of pondering, I realized that I was already planning on spending my time at the practices and games, (you never know when some creeper is going to be put in charge of a bunch of kids!) so the idea began to make a little more sense to me. I'm certainly going to try my hardest to make the season very enjoyable for the kids! Let's just hope they run to first instead of third when they hit the ball! :)

Oh Megan you are hillarious:) You think they would make that a little more clear on the sheet! Well, I think you'll be great! I still remember my T-ball coach:) Good luck! p.s. how much do you charge for photography? I want to get Leilani's 18 month pictures in July and perhaps you might be able to do them.
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty funny. I always coached my little sisters teams when I was in high school. It is pretty layed back. Just make sure you read the rules and ask another parent to help you out and you will be fine. The hardest thing to do is to make sure the kids stay in line to bat and don't bat more than once.(or else the game would never end.) You are going to be great!!!
ReplyDeleteYou will love it! One of my summer jobs was a t-ball umpire and I had a blast! It's not as hard as you might think :-)
