Let me be completely honest here... Yes. I judge those who steal. I know the whole judge not business, but it really really TORKS me when I find out that people are stealing. Last night at work I experience more theft issues than in my whole career at Famous. And believe me... I was TICKED!! Now, you have to understand that retail is retail. Theft is going to happen, but I rather enjoy being able to prevent it. It makes me feel all stealth like. Ha! Unfortunately for my stealth levels, I was able to prevent 2 out of 3 attempts of theft last night. I'm still extremely bothered about this first one... 2 girls and a guy walk in. Do they look like trouble? Eh. Am I out on the floor so I can see them. Yup. Do I have my phone on me to call for assistance? Yup. Ready, set.... GO! I had put out 3 pairs of Nikes on an endcap. I just happened to notice that one of them was a size 11. That's the size my Pops wears, so I make mental notes of these things. I got them looking nice and pretty, then set off to go work on more shoe placement. As I was moving things around I saw a girl walk by with one of the Nike boxes. At the time I didn't see the size, but I heard her mention that she wanted to get them for her boyfriend. I even know boyfriends name: Damian. Does that have anything to do with this? Nope. But I was paying attention!! They browsed and I continued to keep an eye on them without being overly pushy. I had to move some stuff and lost site of them for less than 30 seconds... that's when the trouble started!! UGH! One by one (they never leave all at once, that's a huge distraction from what the lame stealer face is doing) they left. I was rounding the corner and noticed my Nikes were all messed up. Whatev. Retail = Mess. As I was fixing them, I picked up that size 11 box, shook it, and you guessed it right! NO SHOES!!! Kill me now!! I ran to look out the door, but who knows where the wretched people went. My blood was boiling! That shoe hadn't sat out on the floor for more than 10 minutes. Needless to say, I hope Damian enjoys his stolen shoes. Rotten girl!!
As you can tell, I get semi-furious when it comes to these things. People think of the craftiest ways to get away with shoes. It baffels me! Later on we had another couple come in. They entered the store seperately, and went opposite directions. Little did they know I was spying on them as they came in! Ha! Stealth I tell you! I took the guy on this one... He was classy as ever. And by classy I mean just out of prison (2 weeks and 3 days to be exact. Apparently he felt the need to share)and looking nice and scary. Part of me wanted to walk up to him and say "Listen here sir, you look shady. I'm going to go ahead and hold your hand (totally figuratively! who knows where those recently released from prison hands have been! ew!) and make sure you don't take anything that belongs to me. I would probably have to talk to him in my mommy voice just so he caught on to the severity of the situation. Anyways, he sped over to clearance and I was about 2 steps behind him. (stealth!) When I got over there I proceeded to be obnoxiously helpful. From asking sizes, to styles to colors. Not that I don't ask these things anyways, but I was even annoying myself! Ha! He told me that he didn't want anything that looked like jail shoes. Seeing as I've never been there I didn't have a clue what he was saying to me. The only thing I had to refer to was Lock-Up Raw. (I'm only slightly facinated with the prison way of life. Ha!) Do I carry shoes that look like the standard issue prison wear? NO! Did he tell me every pair I showed him looked like that! Of course. Charming fella! His tweaker companion caught on that we were watching them and got mad. Oh well! Did she get away with anything? Not a chance! She sure did try though! In the end they purchased socks (which absolutely could NOT look like prison wear) and left. They put shoes on hold, but I would be shocked if they actually picked them up. The stealing kind usually don't!
So I guess the moral of this post is, Don't steal from me. I'm too stealth (ha!) and I get super annoyed :)
